ABOUT ME
I was fortunate enough to have been born in the market town of Abergavenny in South Wales where I spent my childhood and youth.
Abergavenny is surrounded by spectacular scenery and the ‘Black
Mountains’ and the Brecon Beacons and fascinating valley towns such as
Merthyr, Blaenavon and Brynmawr are only a stone's throw away.
These early childhood memories may account for my long standing
interest in the Welsh landscape.
Having attended art colleges in Newport and Bristol I was lucky
enough to be awarded a place at the prestigious Goldsmiths College
in London where I studied painting during the early 1960’s.
Following the Goldsmiths experience I taught art for 6 years
at an East London Comprehensive School. I then moved to West
Yorkshire where I took charge of a Fine Art department in a college.
During my time at that college I completed a course of research
study at Leeds University which was concerned with art therapy with
patients in a mental hospital and men in a prison. In due
course I decided it was time to come back to my roots in South Wales
and reacquaint myself with my home patch.
A selection of my recent paintings are currently on show at Martins
Framing and Gallery in Baker Street in Abergavenny. This is a warm
and friendly gallery, with an unpretentious approach and a genuine
passion for good quality original art work and a showcase for local
talent. If you like what you see here why not get in touch or
pop into the gallery if you're in the area. |
